Nov 21, Jane rated it liked it Shelves: nonfiction , self-help , religion. The Grown Woman's Guide to Online Dating or as I prefer to call it, The Guide to Online Dating for Really Really Religious Grown Women is super religious. Super, super, super, super-super-super religious. Can't I believe I have self-worth and am beloved without needing to feel that love comes only from God?

Nothing on the cover reveals that this is actually a spirituality book. I have unsuccessfully tried online dating in the past and would like to find a boyfriend. So I kept reading, since I h The Grown Woman's Guide to Online Dating or as I prefer to call it, The Guide to Online Dating for Really Really Religious Grown Women is super religious. So I kept reading, since I had the book and it's short.

But I can say that most of it did not resonate with me. For example, her list of reasons why I might be wary of dating included items that really do not apply to me e. I didn't actually learn anything new from her advice. And every time I would get into the flow of her practical advice that could apply to any older woman using an online dating service, I'd get hit upside the head with super religious asides that pulled me out of any ability to connect to the author.

Like this this sage advice: "Instead of pretending that appearances mean nothing, admit that they mean something and seek God's vision. If you are extremely religious, have been expecting God to send you a mate, and haven't tried online dating before, you might get something out of reading this book. I really enjoyed her perspective and appreciated the honesty in her struggles. The way she encourperates Christ in her life as she evaluates herself and her dates I think was very relevant. flag 1 like · Like · see review. Jun 08, Kristine rated it liked it.

This book was well written and a great introduction to online dating for someone who has never done it before, particularly someone of an older demographic. However, as someone who has used dating apps for some time now, and also someone who is a bit younger than the target audience, there wasn't a whole lot of new information in here for me. Aug 19, Laura Skladzinski rated it it was ok.

This book sounded witty and insightful, but I ended up being really disappointed in it - perhaps just needs better marketing to the right demographic. This was aimed at absolute beginners who have never seen or used an online dating site or app before, and I think could help those who are nervous about doing so. But if you've exchanged even a few messages on an app, you'll already know pretty much everything contained in here. The title and description I read also don't indicate this, but it's r This book sounded witty and insightful, but I ended up being really disappointed in it - perhaps just needs better marketing to the right demographic.

Not bad; I just didn't expect that. Sep 07, wellreadtraveler rated it really liked it. A friend asked me how can I read a book I can't relate to, such as a book about dating when I'm clearly married. Easy, I love to read and learn about everything. I actually really enjoyed this book and learned about the whole world of online dating which seems to be the new way to meet people.

The author makes so many valid points, gives the best suggestions, and really helps woman navigate how to put their best foot forward and be open and honest. I have single friends and the whole time I was r A friend asked me how can I read a book I can't relate to, such as a book about dating when I'm clearly married. I have single friends and the whole time I was reading I was thinking they each need this book.

Heck some the authors suggestions actually gave me some ideas on how to write a better bio and take a better "selfie". I actually even learned a few things to apply to my own relationship believe it or not! The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place. Whyte I mean that's a powerful statement. Lack of communication is a huge obstickle that most couples face in their relationships.

Maybe you have different communication styles or maybe your relationship is lacking it all together. Unless your a spring chicken who has yet to be in a relationship we all have previous baggage and sometimes unrealistic expectations that we bring into relationships. Maybe we know what we want, or don't want and we need to focus on getting it right within ourselves before we can ask that from our partner.

It seems like dating online can be so superfical because you can literally "swipe" past someone by looks alone. Men seem to be dating way below their age range which is so strange to me and don't get me started with the going dutch thing.

Some parts of this book had me laughing while other times I was fascinated. What are your interest and hobbies? Do you like to read, go shopping for books and a fellow reader? Do you like to cook? Best advice; you are worth knowing. You are worth loving. You are enough. flag Like · see review. Aug 26, Jamele BookswithJams rated it it was amazing Shelves: partner. Ok, I did not realize how much I needed this book. Covid has put a damper on things a bit, but I had been thinking I might be ready to at least see what is out there once this is over.

At the same time, that thought is absolutely terrifying. So is the concept of going on a date with someone I have met online given all the thrillers that I read, because worse case I will end up dead, best case I will get myself a stalker, amiright? This book has totally changed my thoughts on that as well as provi Ok, I did not realize how much I needed this book.

The author also provided encouragement throughout the book, shared personal experiences, and did a great job at laying out what to expect when you put yourself out there, so that I feel a little better prepared as I have not done this in like, ever. There were parts in this book that had me laughing out loud, and parts that I really needed to hear. I could keep going, but I will leave you with this, one of the many things I underlined in this book.

Then I'd ask if you'd been talking to my Mom. And then I would assume both of you were crazy. Because online dating? Not a collection of funny essays about online dating, but a breakdown on how to create a good profile, set strong boundaries, and avoid red flags?

All wrapped in a message about identity, hope, and faith from an amazing, funny, and vulnerable wom If you told me at the beginning of the year that one of my favorite books of would be a guide to online dating All wrapped in a message about identity, hope, and faith from an amazing, funny, and vulnerable woman? Okay, so I'm a bit of a Margot Starbuck fangirl. But I didn't react to this book in the way, say, I would if she wrote a page of the dictionary.

Like, I'd read it because she wrote it but also??? Because it honestly spoke to me in a way I didn't expect. It spoke to me as a young, single woman who is not necessarily the targeted audience. But it also spoke to my Mom who has been happily married for nearly 30 years and is definitely not the intended audience.

It speaks because Margot is funny, practical, and vulnerable in this book and really encourages you wherever you are in life: single or married, happy or lonely, content or searching. Many reviews complain about how explicitly Christian this book is. be warned if that's a turnoff for you. As a Christian, I loved how it didn't feel like a typical Christian book. This wasn't a book full of platitudes. It is a woman who takes her faith seriously and it seeps into her writing. Her identity comes from her faith.

I think this was a really healthy book to read as a single person. It makes things tangible and practical. Fills in the details of what to expect. And gets you thinking yes, I could do this too. Anyway, this might have been a right time, right place one for me, but I think it might transcend that a bit.
